3 Fantastic Montréal Festivals You Can Check Out for Free

The intoxicating swirl of summer festivals in Montréal is part of what makes this city so special to visit.  July, in particular, adds a heightened sense delight; the city is simply buzzing with artists and festivals to experience.

In addition to their diversity, most festivals offer des performances gratuites (free performances) which allows you the freedom to wander and explore various acts and artists. sign for Montréal Complement Cirque in front of blue sky and pink brick building

During my visit to Montréal, I loved discovering these festivals:

Juste Pour Rire (Just for Laughs) Comedy Festival:

Juste Pour Rire is a huge comedy festival with headliners like Trevor Noah and Aziz Ansari, group acts, and starting comedians.  There is something for everyone and at various prices.  My favorite part of experiencing this festival was to walk down to the Quartier des Spectacles each night wander around to check out the various free shows. The whole vibe of this festival is happy and fun.

Festival International Nuits d’Afrique:

Looking to hear some great music from artists all around the globe? Go check out the Festival de Nuits d’Afrique.  You’ll be dancing within seconds.  It’s a great place to experience the culture and music from various countries in Africa and the Caribbean.  Furthermore, there is a large market where you can explore clothing, art, jewelry, and food.

Montréal Complètement Cirque:

We all know that Montréal is the home of the famous Cirque du Soleil, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only circus you can find.  Montréal Complement Cirque offers a variety of acts from a diverse range of artists in the circus world.  Wander down Rue St. Dennis, and watch a variety for acrobats, trapeze artists, and jugglers perform at various points on the street, or buy a ticket to watch a larger show.
